At a crowded town hall style meeting, the results the Norristown State Hospital Redevelopment Study were released.
Based on the study’s findings the commonwealth will move forward with the necessary steps to assume 78 acres of land which formerly functioned under the Norristown State Hospital.
Opened in 1880, The Norristown State Hospital is the only remaining facility of its kind in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Still servicing the mental health community, the state hospital currently offers a capacity of approximately 300 beds, and employees approximately 1900 staff members.
